A day on the Aubelle by canoe

From Saint-Loup to Villeneuve, 22 km of gentle river, islands and pebble beaches. The story of a trip downstream.

Eight o’clock at the canoe base. The lifejackets are already lined up on the grass. We load the dry barrel with the picnic bought the day before at the market and push the canoes into the cold water.

The first three kilometres are the wildest: herons, kingfishers and a beaver diving under the bank. Then the river widens below Rochebrune castle.

Practical tips

  1. Book the day before in July and August.
  2. Bring a hat and shoes that can get wet.
  3. The return shuttle leaves Villeneuve at 5 pm.
